CV Mateja Bučar

Early classical ballet formation received at Slovenian National Conservatory for Ballet and professional formation at Centre De Dance International Rosella Hightower in Cannes – France; Further education in modern and contemporary techniques receiving with choreographers: Mathilde Monier, Peter Goss, William Forsythe, John Jaspers, Arthur Rosenfeld and many others. In 1980 became a member of Slovenian National Ballet and later also a member of Dance Theatre Ljubljana (between 1987 – 1999). From 1999 on – working as president and leading force at DUM Association of Artits, an association and a centre for contemporary art production, working internationally in the fields of performance, contemporary dance, visual art, fine art, multimedia as well as theory and philosophical thought in relation to art; Since 1992 she is continuously working as choreographer. In December 2015 she has received a PhD from The university of London–Trinity Laban Conservatory and Music and Dance as Doctor of Creative Practice in Aesthetics and Choreographic practices. She has received the following awards: Župančičeva nagrada (Župančič Award) in 2005 from the City of Ljubljana, The Ann Sayers Award for 2014 from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, The Ksenija Hribar Critics Award, for 20 years of choreographic work and artistic achievements. .

Selected work:

1994: choreography and solo dance for the multi-media project PARAHOUSE by Marko Košnik (Dessau, Germany ).

1995/96: ballet DISCIPLIN AS A CONDITION OF FREEDOM in Slovene National Ballet in Ljubljana.

1997: two solos – PLEASURE IN DISPLEASURE and DEPENDANCE in collaboration with visual artist Vadim Fishkin

1998: solo performance DEPENDANCE on WORLD WIDE SIMOULTANEOUS DANCE project in production of the Do While Studio, Boston USA

1999: contemporary dance project TELBORG in co-production with Cankarjev dom Ljubljana (presented in Budapest, Bologna, Moscow, Klagenfurt, Stockholm, Zagreb, Gent )

2000: solo performance DEPENDANCE 1 for Expo 2000 in Hannover, Germany.

2001: dance installation and performance MEDIA-MEDICI in co-production with CoDaCo, the European Fund for Contemporary dance Vienna. Performances were placed in the museum of modern art in Moderna Galerija Ljubljana (Vienna, Ljubljana)

2002: Performance O QUADRATE in co-production with Cankarjev dom Ljubljana (presented in Hannover, Moscow, Berlin, Medana).

2004: Performance CONCEPT OF THE CONCEPT in Galerija ŠKUC Ljubljana and Moscow centre for contemporary arts

AWARDS:

2005: Župančičeva nagrada (Zupančič Award) from the City of Ljubljana for artistic achievements in choreography in the past two years (2004, 2005).
2014: The Ann Sayers Award for 2014 from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, UK.
2015: The Ksenija Hribar Award, the highest acknowledgement from the Association of Contemporary Dance Slovenia, for 20 years of choreographic work.
2015 : Awarded a PhD – Dance/Creative Practice from City University in London, UK.
