Bojana Robinson, Katja Legin Oh, how very ordinary.2021

dance performance

A large table, covered with a plastic pink tablecloth. There are plastic furniture covers on the floor (used when you paint an apartment, for example). On the table are a knife, a board, a large bowl, stalks and tomato leftovers. No one is there. Diagonally to the right behind the table is a vacuum cleaner that is turned on.
The content of Oh, How Very Ordinary comes from the personal stories / fragments / autobiographical motifs of the authors and from short stories by Katherine Mansfield, especially Bliss.
It is about the clearing up of two women, their confrontation with the reality of the life they live. This confrontation is mostly uncomfortable. It demolishes their dreams, illusions, their myths about the world, about themselves. At the same time, this landing on the ground is also witty and somehow more vibrant than anything before. As if it were a transition to a new maturity, adulthood, and taking on responsibility where it had so far been possible to shift it, to pass it on to someone out there. Their reality, this life of theirs – as they see it without the web of illusion – is ordinary, boring, full of non-glamorous obligations in which there seems to be not much meaning and value. In this everyday life, however, meaning and value arise, fantasy and art, the sublime experience of being. It takes place in the banalities.
The play is colourful and eclectic: from rock ’n’ roll excess, hoarding and abundance to total stops, gaps, idling; from autobiography to literary fiction; from film to dance to theatre.
The play is a celebration. That is why it contains music, dancing, balloons, cocktails and champagne …
